Earlier this week, I contacted an unnamed Poco about the name of a medical 'wrap' that is used with horses. It's called Vet Wrap, costs a little over $2 per roll and is a great elastic bandage that sticks to itself. It's also multi-use because it's so tough and could certainly be used (and I'll be ready to use it) as a substitute for a product that's intended for humans (Coban) that costs easily twice as much per roll.
As I was in the Feed and Seed (amazing what kind of trouble you can get into in such an innocent place) I started looking at some of the products used for treating and preventing wounds on horses in particular but probably other animals as well. I could give you the exact name of the stuff but it's probably more of a local thing rather than brand name products.
I'm wondering if anyone has ventured to store animal wound care (in particular) products for human consumption and use down the road. I looked at some of the creams etc as well as vitamins. Their main ingredients look like wholesome stuff but I'd be slow to use vitamins for humans simply because of the concentration of active ingredients.
So, what about it. What can you recommend? I'll recommend Vet Wrap just to get the ball rolling. :(

Unnamed poco? That would be me! LOL one thing that is good for just about any critter 2 or 4 legged, is Bag balm. It is generally used on chapped skin and some "Dry wounds" minor scrapes and abrasions. It is like a "Waxy" petroleum Jelly. Bag Balm comes in a green metal square tin and is sold pretty much nation wide.
My #1 Priority is knowledge, ultimately it is the only thing you can take with you if you are stripped bare by a flash flood, hurricane or whatever. Everything can be taken away from you, except for what is contained by your own skin. So learning all you can is what it is all about, and ultimately why each of us is here. - Mel White

A good horse fly spray. Use it on your tarp, tent, sleeping bag, whatever. It will repel not only the ticks, chiggers and mosquitoes like OFF, but also those pesky flies in the mornings that bug you when you are trying to sleep or waiting on breakfast. Don't use them on yourself...but the area can use a fine mist. Just check the lable, some are bio-safe...use one of them.

Another good one is the epoxy mix for horse hooves. it comes in tubes and is resealable. Works great for repair jobs on differeent items!

I own horses and can give you a BUNCH of these samples!

Thanks so much Dink. Does the epoxy work for metal to metal, plastics etc? Anything that it specifically does NOT work on? I'm going tomorrow to get some horsefly spray.

The hoof wrap is the greatest, I keep a roll in my tool chest at work to overwrap bandaides or just use it alone to protect cuts, I've found you can cut the roll into what ever width you want, especially for wrapping fingers.

I've also used 20% Ichthammol dressing for years for all sorts infected wounds and what not, even a couple of cases of blood poisening.
