im a big guy and that bunker would poke the hell out of me lol.
im wanting to get a leatherman surge. i like the idea of being able to remove the file if i have to sharpen the knife blade on it in a pinch.

The other thing bbout the surge is the pocket to store the extra part you can also fit a mini firesteel in it no problem.Hope you get 1, if you can get past the 11-13 oz carry weight.

(BTW leatherman supports anti-gun groups with its money)

What groups, Scorch? That would seem counter to their own financial well-being, since it isn't the fluffy-loving housewives and interior decorators sipping their lattes that are the target audience for their product. It is the hunter, outdoorsman, fisherman, and blue-collar worker that would be the ones GIVING them that income. I would think that would tend to steer them clear of advocating disarmament of any sort, since it would negatively impact their customer base and sales.

I've never heard that rumor, so I am interested to see what contributions or support Leatherman has given to the "enemy".

In fact, the ONLY thing I can find that he (Tim Leatherman) has ever done is personally support and contribute to John Kerry's campaign. It wasn't due to Kerry's anti-gun sentiments, but for other things the man espoused in his campaign. Here is a link to the open letter Tim wrote regarding the often threatening and misguided things people have said about him and his company simply for expressing his personal choice in a national election.

http://thebullspeaks...-mr-leatherman/

Among his statements in the letter:

"Amazingly, all those people decided to boycott my company and called me all those names without a single one asking me my position on gun control. My position is, assuming you are a law abiding citizen and own weapons that are legal to own, that no one should be able to take your guns away from you. I own a rifle and shotgun myself."

and

"Just because I said I was going to vote for Kerry didn’t mean that I supported every position Kerry took. And I acknowledge, there were times when it was tough to figure out what his position was. I did (and do) believe that some of the things George W. Bush did during his first term in office were not good for the country. Overall, I felt we needed a change of leadership, but a majority of the country thought otherwise."

As to buying Leatherman products helping to support the anti-gun movement, he said this about his Kerry support:

"Some of you were concerned that by buying LEATHERMAN tools company funds would go to support political candidates in which you did not believe. I have already assured you that neither company funds nor personal funds went to any candidate, party, PAC, or other political entity."

Sorry CW I checked and the document expired so I can't prove it.

Black Leatherman Surge with bit kit, driver extension, and a firesteel w/striker all in the pouch. It originally came with a MOLLE compatible pouch that I have attached to my vest.

My normal Multitool is a Swisstool. With you on that one OD. However, I've just bought a Leatherman Skeletool to carry in my Briefcase. Granted, the Skeletool is a bit thin on features but it has a good blade, a good grip and a few drivers. The clinch for me, and the reason for buying, is that it is thin and low profile and therefor better for a business case. At the end of the day though, it's always going to be the Swisstool I reach for. It is 9 years old now and going strong. Can't ask for more than that.
There is a lot to be said for a warm fire, a dry bed and good food......many do not have it !

Can't remember the brand for mine, but I suspect it is a Shelly. Its solid as, and I've used it numerous times without fail. I must admit to wanting a leatherman though as I've read some great feedback from everyone here and at http://www.survivaltopics.com/.

tried for a while the wave; but returned it cuz I felt too many tools were of not use to me and too heavy. I use my original leatherman multitool for paracord work; but don't carry one. have all tools I need (except pliers) on my SAK.

I'm not going to rant, but my Leatherman Surge is the most useful thing I've ever owned ...ever!

If you can keep your head, while all about are losing theirs, then you may have seriously misjudged the situation!

Multitool EDC?

Leatherman "Wave" on my belt (with a "Bunker" Firesteel in the side pouch of the sheath...it sticks up an inch above the top of the sheath and makes the whole thing look like a cell phone), and Victorinox "Camper" on my keyring.

The "Survival" Firesteel fits my Wave sheath without that "cell phone look" -- Plus the sheath has room for a couple water purification tabs, a coghlans tinder, a 1 quart ziplock bag, 2 feet of electrical tape, and 6 feet of stainless wire (wrapped around the Firesteel).

I don't own a Surge, but I can say the same thing about my Wave. It's practically become an extension of my arm. I've actually developed pretty adept muscle memory for pulling it out of the sheath, which is always on the right side of my belt. I don't even think about it anymore, it pretty much just appears in my hand whenever I need it.

I have "Delta" multitool, but once package is gone and I forget it will be nameless, as there is no name on the tool itself.

My multitool is a Leatherman Wave. To me, it is handier than a pocket on a t-shirt.

I alternate with 2...Leatherman Wave (old version) and Victorinox Spirit. I have three other Gerbers, one Buck, one SOG, but these have been relegated to the drawer for years.

Leatherman Wave has served me well thus far. Didn't realize how popular they were. From reading this thread, it looks like several of you are putting them to use.

I have had the SOG Powerlock for about 3 or 4 years now. It is my EDC Multitool! I use it more than my Kleins! Ihave pulled thousands of nails with it, hooked up hundreds of A/C's, breaker boxes, & it's always with me in the swamps also! I have more than used, but abused mine. I have had to replace one saw blade(thanks to my oldest son) the 1/4" adapter(used it with a socket changing truck batt.), & the file(used it as a mini prybar on a door!) If I had used it correctly I wouldn't have had to replace a thing! Handiest funtion is the pliers! They grab, hold, & cut unbelievably due to leverage generated by the gears. If I lose them I will replace them.

figure ill start this section off right.
i carry a victorinox swisstool spirit s, in black oxidized finish.
for years ive carried a leatherman wave. i recently took a chance on a victorinox and havent thought about carrying my leatherman again. for what i do day to day the swisstool is all i need. little easier on the tired hands as the handles are slightly contoured as well.
love to see what everyone else carries and their opinion on their tool

OD, I carry a Leatherman Wave. Very practical, reliable and handy.
